Gift Caricature – by Your Design

GIFT CARICATURES

If you would like a custom crafted gift caricature where you get to check out previews and be involved in the process of the final artwork, then I have three different price structures as choices for your gift caricature. They depend on whether you wanted it as a black & white line drawing, B&W shaded or full color.
You can see the breakdown here including samples of each style here: black & white | shaded | color

Full Gift Caricature with background (Like a single panel cartoon in the Funnies)

1- Black & White Line only - $150 (plus $15/face after first 3) + tax

2- Shaded Black & White (Tones) $185 (plus $20/face after first 3) + tax

3- Full Colour$350 (plus $25/face after first 3) + tax

These prices include consultation times, preparation and supplies. I will also illustrate on any of the following sizes you prefer (8.5x11, 9x12, 11x14, 11x17 or 14x17) and we can discuss that further. For anything larger, the price increases based on how large and details included.

WORKING from PHOTOS

I can work from photos but please ensure that you feel it’s a good representation of the person and large enough file size that I can zoom in close with clarity. For these caricatures, I use long lasting supplies including quality art papers and card stocks, indelible inks and watercolour pencils (or Photoshop colouring is also an option for multiple prints). THE PROCESS!

Cory's most common process is to illustrate his artwork with pen and ink in black & white, then to scan the artwork for computer formatting.

<------------------------>

Colouring is another step that can take the same length of time as the original artwork or more. Here are the results of one project.

Preparation:

Photos:
Please provide up to 4-5 clear photos of the subjects. File sizes should be over 100kb for clarity (anything smaller pixelates when zooming in close). Try to provide the best photo that clearly represents that person’s face & personality (a single photo doesn’t always represent ones ‘image” or looks). Shots that cut off the hairline or chin do not give me the “whole picture”; and, crooked smiles and squinty eyes that are not what you normally see the person doing can result in a likeness that you do not feel captures the person.

If you can only provide one photo of a person then the result will be that specfic reference photo. **IN some cases it's all about the photo and how funny it turned out which is totally fine**

Composition and Theme:
You can have several ideas that you want to add to the drawing to make it more personal: hobbies, pursuits, job or personal scenarios. The best thing is to list your top 5-6 scenarios/situations/hobbies/habits that should make the 'toon. If you do have several ideas, first organize these on your own and make your "Top 5" or "Top 10". Several ideas are great but some simply can't all fit in one drawing.

PROCEDURE:

STAGE 1) I provide a rough pencil sketch first based on the theme. It may be 2-3 with different scenes or compositions. These have no attention to the caricature but the overall look of the picture with poses, props, etc. Once we agree on the composition I draw the pencil draft

STAGE 2) I draw the pencil draft and forward a preview. This is where we ensure you are happy with the likeness and that the details are all in.

STAGE 3) On approval I will ink and complete the artwork. Whether it's a black & white line drawing, B&W with shading or full color piece, this is the completion stage and all changes should have been made at stage 2.
*** Further revision requests after the fact result in extra charges at $75/hr above the listed price.***

Revisions:

Based on the listed price I leave room for changes required. Best way to organize on your end

2-3 on the setting (stage 1)

2 on a caricature in pencil draft (stage 2). Once I send a preview of a caricature, if you feel I need to make a revision more than twice, then you need to have a look at the photo you sent as the reference and reconsider if this is the best one for me to use (review "Photos")
